4 Corners Tour USA 2011

Photos taken between Miami, Florida and Tifton, Georgia.

Erik dropped his wife off at the Miami airport before sunrise and had a long haul by his lonesome up to Georgia where he reconvined with Kent and Troy.

It was around Lake City, FL that I heard Mike decided to stop doing the tour, rest up, and head due West on his own back home to California.

Photos taken on the Florida Keys.

Chickens!

Key West, Florida was Corner #2 on our USA Four Corner Tour.

Photos taken between Raleigh, NC and Miami, FL.

This was Erik’s longest day of riding clocking in at 799 miles.

The upside is that he was joined by his wife Kathryn. They enjoyed some fresh Georgia peaches on their long haul to Miami.

Leaving Florida on Day 13 I went through 6 rain storms.  All brief.  This one I had my helmet cam running and caught pretty good.

You can see cars and trucks turning on their emergency lights and pulling off the road.

I figured that the best thing to do was to ride through it as fast as I could… which was still pretty slow - I think I want all the way down to 2nd gear.

I did not have any of my rain gear on, and by the end of the 2 and a half minutes of rain I was completely soaked.

Kent and Troy hit this same storm as they passed through a bit later in the day, but they had pulled off and got under some shelter until it passed.

Mike is heading straight West

While Kent, Troy, and myself continue on due North West to Corner #3 in Blaine, WA, Mike has decided to head straight West back home to Southern California.
This tour schedule is grueling and has taken it’s toll on us all. Each day I go past my point of fatigue and when we get into the hotel room you just collapse into sleep.
Mike has had enough and did not want to slow us down from keeping with our schedule and goal of completing the 4 Corners Tour.
Despite the above, we are all, including Mike, having the ride of our lives and loving every mile of it. Just some miles more than others.
So long Mike. Have a safe ride home.

Friend of the Bike: Tony I met Tony in Lake City, FL when I pulled over to get get some WiFi and book a hotel for the night. He and his wife pulled up at the same time and I asked about some upcoming cities on the highway. Tony just recently got his first bike, a 650cc and his planning his first road trip. He asked what I thought was most important and I said to not run out of gas in the middle of nowhere (know your bike’s range) and that I could not imagine doing this trip without cruise control on my bike. His bike does not have cruise control but I told him you can get an accessory for your accelerator that will lock it in place. It’s a must so you can give your right hand a break every so often and circulate your blood.

Day 13 Miles

495.5 miles

Miami, FL to Tifton, GA

During the early afternoon I would ride through a rain cloud and then the sun and wind would dry me off… but later in the day the cloud cover blocked the sun too much and it stayed cool enough that I arrived at the motel still damp.

Passed through 3 rain clouds on my first tank of gas heading out of Miami.

I was not prepped for rain, but thanks to the 100 degree heat and wind on the bike I am basically dry.

Moving on…
